As of June 9, 2021, the Union has been certified by the NLRB. Now begins the heavy lifting to win our first contract for drivers in California and Nevada at PTI.
What does ‘bargain a contract mean’?
UE is the official representative for PTI drivers in Northern CA and Sparks and Winnemuca NV. PTI has agreed to meet and discuss proposals written by Union bargaining committee members. PTI leaders may have proposals of their own.
Through a series of meetings, the Union hope to achieve a contract that will be legally binding and include top priorities for drivers, such as: raises, a grievance procedure, protections for road and yard shifts. The language in the contract helps protect rights on the job, so we will be asking for your support to help win a good contract. Drivers in action and United will show the Company our proposals are serious and members will defend them.
What are the next steps?
UE and PTI are meeting on August 4th & 11th and then later in August. Bargaining Committee (BC) members will be in touch with the Contract Support Committee (CSC) members in your yard to inform them of progress in bargaining.
The BC and the CSC will ask for you to participate in some activities to let PTI know that we are united in our demands for a fair contract. “We will need as many drivers engaged and involved as possible”, said Lela Jankowski, PTI driver in Dunsmuir CA and Bargaining Committee member. “Together, we can secure more rights for all drivers”, she added.
Stressing the importance of contract language in addition to raises, Bargaining Committee member Ed Stephenson said “when we get it in writing, then we can hold the company to fair rules. All drivers deserve fair rules. After all, we make this company run every day”.
Will the boss give us everything we want?
The answer to that question depends on how much you are involved with fighting for the contract you want and deserve. The more you are involved the better chances for a fair contract involved the better chances for a fair contract.
Got disciplined? You have the right to challenge it.
Now that the Union is certified, PTI has a duty to bargain with the Union over post discipline matters. That means, if you get disciplined for something that you believe was not a rule violation or the company did not take into account your side of the story, please reach out to a stew-ard or staff member in your area.
Don’t delay, we need to timely follow up with the company when disci-plines are given. We won’t know unless you call someone. Please call Fernando at (323) 572-4668 or J at (773) 263-4341 and get some help today.
